We recently had dinner at the Taj Mahal Indian Restaurant in Madeira, and it was an amazing experience. We ordered a selection of vegetarian dishes and fresh naan, and everything was simply outstanding. The flavors were rich, authentic, and perfectly spiced — you could really taste how much care goes into the cooking. The vegetarian dishes were vibrant and full of depth, easily among the best we’ve had anywhere. The naan was warm, soft, and freshly baked, the perfect accompaniment to every dish. The service was excellent as well. The staff was kind, attentive, and very welcoming, making the whole evening feel relaxed and enjoyable. If you’re looking for delicious vegetarian Indian food on Madeira, this place is an absolute must. Highly recommended — we’d love to come back! ~ Sven H

Wir haben hier so toll gegessen. Der Service war schnell, aufmerksam und super nett. Wir hatten es nicht ganz leicht in der Gegend vegetarisches/veganes essen zu finden. Hier wird man fündig! Für Menschen die nicht scharf essen können lohnt es sich vorher nachzufragen. Das Essen an sich war köstlich und das Ambiente sehr schön und angenehm! ~ Noura

Mega essen, mein Freund hat zum ersten Mal indisch gegessen, er hat die Teller wortwörtlich sauber gemacht. Sehr empfehlenswert. Mega service absolut nett und hilfsbereit, vor allem die Frau, die uns bedient hat. Hat uns sehr gefreut, ich habe schon öfters indisch gegessen, aber noch nie so lecker wie hier. Ich hatte vegetable basmati rice mit garlic naan und mein Freund Butter Chicken mit garlic naan. Delicious! ~ sa r

Äußerst frische und interessant gewürzte Gerichte. Wir haben schon das ein oder andere Mal indisch gegessen aber dies hier war mit Abstand das beste. Der Service war Championsleage: Regelmäßig gefragt aber überhaupt nicht aufdringlich, das Restaurant war sauber und das Ambiente war stimmig. Sehr gutes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis! ~ Kordula B

We visited the Taj Mahal for the first time despite many years of coming to Madeira. We decided we needed a break from the.typical Madeiran menus (not that they are bad!) and we are so glad we did. We had a prawn biryana and a prawn bhuna and they were absolutely delicious, right up there with the best Indian meals we have ever had. The spicing was well balanced, hot and aromatic and the prawns were cooked perfectly,, not a hint of rubberiness just sweet softness. The service was good, polite and friendly and the restaurant is situated close to the Pestana Carlton hotel. We will certainly be going again! ~ Steve B

Eines der besten Restaurants im Hinblick auf Preis/Leistung/Service. Gute klassische indische Küche. Die Präsentation wird nicht Ihre Vorstellungskraft beflügeln, im Gegensatz zum hervorragenden Geschmack traditioneller indischer Gerichte. Die Portionsgrößen sind fair, das Naan, das Fleisch und die Saucen sind ausgezeichnet. Der Spinat aus der Appetizer-Abteilung ist ebenso gut wie alle Fleischgerichte aus dem Hauptteil. Die königlichen Garnelen kommen im Vergleich dazu etwas schwächer rüber. ~ IT T

A tragic lapse, now rectified. Tucked away like a culinary reliquary, the place possesses that rare alchemy of warmth and ease: candlelit conviviality, the gentle clatter of plates, and staff whose hospitality feels less like service and more like benevolent guardianship. One enters as a customer and departs feeling faintly adopted. The curry arrived with the solemn authority of a well-argued sermon—fragrant, complex, and possessing that slow-building heat that warms rather than assaults. Alongside it came naan bread drawn fresh from the tandoor: blistered, pillowy, and perfumed with smoke, as though the oven itself had whispered secrets into the dough. It was, in short, a revelation. Very good option for Indian food in Funchal. The restaurant is very well located, opposite the Pestana Carlton hotel and near the Savoy. The food is well prepared and is of good quality. The service is great and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Sitting on the terrace whilst having your evening meal is a great experience. The prices are reasonable for the location and quality of food. The meat is apparently halal (chicken and lamb) but best to check with staff, as it may depend on availability of supply. ~ Mushtaq A

The food was amazing, just like you'd expect from a good Indian restaurant. We had chicken biryani, butter chicken, naan, and chicken wings as takeaway, and everything tasted great. The atmosphere is calm and relaxed, and if you’re dining in, you even get a nice view of the Atlantic Ocean. The service was friendly and efficient. The only downside is that the prices are a bit on the expensive side for what you get, but overall, it’s a great spot for tasty Indian food in Madeira. ~ Isuru C

Pedimos pan naam de ajo riquísimo, también tomamos pollo tika masala y butter chicken con arroz, delicioso ambos. El postre kulfi de mango, súper fresquito y muy rico. Los camareros muy majos y atentos. ~ Eugenia V

We were looking for a restaurant not very far from the hotel and were not sure if an Indian restaurant would be a good choice with kids. This place is perfect! Delicious food, friendly staff, fast service and ideal if you want something else then the burgers, steak and fish from the usual restaurants (not bad at all too). Don’t hesitate to come here, you won’t regret it and would push you down a lot of money. ~ Emiel D

Ever since I’ve moved to Madeira from Pakistan I was looking for an authentic desi food taste. Ive been too many places but this place has the best Indian food. Spice level is just perfect that hits your flavour spot without making it too hot. View from this place is amazing. Try and go in the afternoon like we did and had most of the place to ourselves. Das Essen war wirklich klasse. Wir waren mehrmals da und sind immer sehr gut bedient worden. Normalerweise gehen wir oft regional Essen, aber der Inder war so gut, dass wir immer wieder sehr gerne hin gegangen sind. ~ Uwe K

Having read the reviews before dining here my husband and I were not expecting much but this place was absolutely fantastic! Being of Indian origin I find it very difficult to find authentic Indian food and am not easily impressed when I go out to eat at Indian restaurants. The food and service were superb and if we were not just visiting, this place would hands downs become our local curry house! :) ~ simmone r

We’ve been here twice during the week we’ve been in Madeira and have loved the food, service and atmosphere. It’s not often you can eat Indian food with a view of the Atlantic Ocean for starters. But on top, the food is delicious and curries are as hot as you’d want them to be - well judged says my hubbie who had chicken madras tonight. We really loved this Indian restaurant beside our hotel in Funchal. We went here twice and both the times the food was really good, the service was quick as well. Also people working there are friendly. It has a really nice sea view from the terrace so you can relax with some nice Indian food. I would definitely suggest this place if you like Indian food. ~ Prashant T
